I have to admit that I am still hooked on the Writers of the Future contest. Not as much as I used to, but it’s still one of my main goals for the time-being, at least until I manage to “pro out”, as they say.
It’s still nice to get an HM, all the more if you stop and think of all the stories that are being rejected each quarter (mine among them, more often than not). And I haven’t got so many that I can shrug it off just like that.
On the other hand, been there, done that, and an HM is still a rejection. I have a mountain of rejections already, no need to get excited for new ones. What I want now is to be a finalist.
So, mixed feelings all the way.But I’m still optimistic. My track record keeps improving all the time; it’s just not improving as fast as I’d like!
